Six appliances
Six household machines we fix where they stand
We keep to the appliances a house leans on daily: cold storage, laundry, dishes and cooking. Each has its own page covering the usual symptoms, the brands we open most and how the visit unfolds.
Refrigerator and Freezer RepairEvery layout, French-door to top-freezer, plus built-ins and the spare unit in the garage or basement. Typical calls: a warm fresh-food side, frost climbing the back panel, a puddle beneath the crisper, a fan that rattles.Fridge / freezer repair
Washer RepairFront-loaders, top-loaders and stacked laundry pairs that stall full of water, refuse to spin, drip from the door boot or quit with a code. Scale-clogged inlet screens are routine in these hard-water towns.Washer repair
Dryer RepairGas or electric, the complaints repeat: cold air, two cycles per load, a squeal, an early shutoff. Our technicians test igniter, element, thermal fuse and belt, and they look at the vent run out to its hood.Dryer repairDishwasher RepairStanding water after the cycle, cloudy glasses, grit on the plates. South-metro scale coats spray arms and heating elements, so we check those along with the drain pump, filter and inlet valve.Dishwasher repair
Oven, Range and Cooktop RepairRanges, wall ovens and cooktops, glass-top and induction included, on gas or electric. A dark bake element, a slow igniter, a burner that only knows high, an oven running hot: each gets measured before anyone names a part.Oven / range repair
Ice Maker RepairThe ice maker in your refrigerator door or freezer, when it stops filling, drops hollow cubes or fuses into one block. Crusted fill tubes and weary inlet valves are common wherever the tap water is hard.Ice maker repair

In-home repair
Appliance repair in Burnsville, MN, and the cities around it
Burnsville is home base, and its houses shape a lot of our days. Once I-35W came through in 1960, the town grew from under three thousand people to about twenty thousand within a decade, so ramblers and split-levels from that stretch line the streets off County Road 11, Cliff Road and McAndrews Road. Many keep the washer and dryer in the basement beside a floor drain and run a second refrigerator in the garage. The 1990s added townhomes and apartment complexes, and the Heart of the City brought four-story condos near Nicollet Avenue and Burnsville Parkway, where laundry often sits stacked in a hall closet. Each setting has its own habits: an old drain line that backs up, a dryer vent run that is too long, a closet with no room to pull a machine out.
The same vans head out to Eagan, Apple Valley, Rosemount, Lakeville, Prior Lake, Savage and Bloomington, and no two of those cities hand us the same mix of calls. Lakeville and Rosemount are full of houses built since 1990 or 2000, where a young dishwasher or a high-efficiency washer is the usual patient. Eagan boomed through the 1980s, and townhomes and apartments make up a big slice of it. Prior Lake mixes lake homes with newer subdivisions. Bloomington, across the river, is a city where about half the single-family homes predate 1960. Whatever the address, the visit follows one pattern: a meter on the suspect part, an explanation you can repeat to the rest of the household, one written price, and a decision that stays yours.
About AlimagnetWhat it costs
The diagnostic visit and two ways to lower the bill
$89
Diagnostic inside repair
$89 pays for the trip, the testing and the written price. Say yes to the repair and that sum already sits within the repair total instead of riding on top. Say no, and $89 closes out the visit.
up to$15
Booked online
Request the visit with the form on this page and the technician knocks up to $15 off the repair price. It reduces the repair alone, never the diagnostic, and phoned-in bookings don’t qualify.
$10
Second appliance
Slow-draining dishwasher on top of the dryer you booked for? Tick the second-appliance box on the form, and the extra machine’s diagnostic, done during that same stop, comes in $10 lower.
How a visit runs
How a repair visit goes, from first call to test run
- 01
Call or use the form
Phone the office or send the booking form with the machine, the symptom and your ZIP. We ring you back to set a two-hour arrival slot, and a request that comes in before mid-morning often turns into a same-day stop.
- 02
Readings, then a verdict
The technician clips a meter onto the element, valve, switch or motor in question and aims an infrared thermometer at coils and compartments when cold is the complaint. You hear which part gave out, and why, in kitchen-table language.
- 03
Price on paper
Before a panel comes off for the repair, you get a single written figure for the whole job. No clock ticks while the technician works and no extra line shows up afterward; the work waits for your yes.
- 04
Fix, test, warranty
The van carries the common parts, so plenty of repairs wrap up in one trip. If a part needs ordering, the return trip adds no second trip charge. We run the machine through a test, tidy up and write the warranty into the invoice.

Service area
Appliance repair across Burnsville and seven nearby cities
Our technicians set out from Burnsville each morning and work across Dakota, Scott and Hennepin county neighborhoods. Every city has its own water, its own housing age and its own most common calls; here is the short version for each.
- BurnsvilleHome base: ramblers and split-levels from the I-35W boom, downtown condos, and tap water around 23 to 25 grains that scales dishwashers quickly.
- Apple ValleyRamblers off Cedar Avenue and County Road 42, homes near Lebanon Hills and the zoo, and water near 24 grains that keeps softeners working hard.
- SavageTownhomes and newer family houses between the Credit River and Murphy-Hanrehan, on water bought mostly from Burnsville at roughly 19 to 21 grains.
- LakevilleThe youngest housing in the area, from Lake Marion to Orchard Lake, on 18-grain water with softeners the city suggests setting to 14–16.
- EaganEighties houses, townhomes and plenty of apartments off Pilot Knob, Diffley and Yankee Doodle roads, on hard well water filtered for iron and manganese.
- Prior LakeLake homes along Lower and Upper Prior Lake plus newer subdivisions off Eagle Creek Avenue, with 19.3-grain water the city leaves unsoftened.
- BloomingtonPostwar ramblers east of I-35W, newer homes to the west, and city-softened water near 5 grains, where too much detergent is the usual culprit.
- RosemountFast-growing neighborhoods along County Road 42 and Akron Avenue, mostly built since 2000, on city well water where the softener setting deserves a look.
Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting guides for common appliance problems
Some problems end with a reset breaker, an emptied lint screen or a water valve turned back on. Our troubleshooting guides cover those safe checks first, then explain what a technician measures when the easy answers run out.
Minnesota homes
What Minnesota winters, summers and hard water do to appliances
The Twin Cities average about 51 inches of snow and roughly 22 days a year at or below zero. That cold reaches garage refrigerators and chest freezers, which can stop cycling when the garage is colder than the box, and it frosts dryer vent hoods on the outside wall. Dry winter air stiffens door gaskets until they no longer seal. Summer swings the other way: a dozen or so days at 90°F or above, heavy humidity, sweating refrigerator cabinets and musty front-load door boots. Then there is the water. Most of the south metro pumps hard water, about 18 to 25 grains per gallon where cities publish a figure, and the scale settles on dishwasher elements, inlet-valve screens and ice-maker fill tubes. Bloomington is the exception, softened at the city plant.
Below-zero garages
A garage refrigerator senses a frigid room, rests too long and lets its freezer thaw. In July heat the same unit runs without a break. We check the thermostat, fans and condenser before talking about anything bigger.
Storms and outages
Small tornadoes hit Burnsville, Savage and Apple Valley overnight in September 2021, and July 2025 storms darkened homes across the state. Afterward come dead control boards, stalled ice makers and freezers full of thawed food.
Scale and softeners
When a softener runs out of salt, the dishwasher usually shows it first with white film and cloudy glasses. Bloomington sees the reverse: city-softened water plus a full detergent dose means suds and etched glass.
The name
Where the name Alimagnet comes from
We took our name from Lake Alimagnet, a 102-acre lake on the line between Burnsville and Apple Valley, inside Alimagnet Park on County Road 11, two blocks north of County Road 42. The word sounds invented, and local legend says it nearly was: the story goes that it blends the first names of Alice McQuillan, Maggie Davis and Nettie Judd, three girls who lived nearby in the 1860s. No record settles the question, and we are content to leave it a legend. We are not located at the lake; we simply liked a name that belongs to this corner of the metro.
Questions
Questions before you book
Which cities do you cover besides Burnsville?
Eagan, Bloomington, Apple Valley, Rosemount, Savage, Prior Lake and Lakeville, plus Burnsville itself. That takes in houses, townhomes, condos and apartments across much of Dakota County, part of Scott County and the southern edge of Hennepin County. Live near the fringe of that map? Ask on the call or add a note to the form, and we will confirm before anything is booked.
How quickly can you get someone out here?
We schedule Monday to Saturday, and calls that land early are often seen that same day. A fridge or freezer losing its chill jumps the line, since groceries are on the clock. Every request gets a callback that pins down a two-hour arrival slot, so nobody spends the whole day watching the driveway.
What if I decide against the repair?
Then the visit costs $89, full stop. You keep the diagnosis anyway: the part that gave out, what the readings said and what fixing it would run on paper. Plenty of households take that figure along while they shop, weigh it against a new machine and decide from there; we leave that choice where it belongs, with you.
Is an older appliance worth repairing?
Often, though not always. We weigh age and condition, what the failed part costs and how the rest of the machine behaves under test. When the readings lead to the compressor or refrigerant, we lay out what we found and what it means for repair versus replacement, and you choose with the evidence on the counter.
Which appliance brands do you repair?
Our technicians regularly open Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, Café, KitchenAid, LG, Bosch, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Kenmore, Amana, Speed Queen, Thermador and Miele machines around here. Being independent, we answer to no single maker. If a manufacturer’s warranty still covers your appliance, you hear that from us first, because covered work belongs with the maker.
Do you fix microwaves, water heaters or water softeners?
No. Our list stops at six: refrigerators with their freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens and ranges with their cooktops, and refrigerator ice makers. Microwaves, wine coolers, standalone ice machines, furnaces, water heaters, softeners, garbage disposals, countertop gadgets and commercial gear go elsewhere. We may still mention a softener setting, because the dishwasher tends to reveal it.
What should I do if I smell gas near the range or dryer?
Walk everyone out of the house, then phone the gas utility or 911 from outside. Leave switches, plugs and the hunt for the leak alone. Once the gas side is declared safe, we can return and diagnose the igniter, burner or valve inside the appliance that started the trouble.
Book the $89 diagnostic visit
Approve the repair and the $89 diagnostic already sits inside your one written price; turn it down and $89 pays for everything the technician did.
